Daegu is the third-largest metropolitan city in South Korea and is the capital of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province even though it is not geographically a part of the province. Daegu, also known as Taegu, is located near the Geumho River. And just like other South Korean cities such as Gyeongju, Daegu also has a long and ancient history. It was a part of the Silla Kingdom in ancient times and was made the capital city of the Gyeongsand-do Province during the Joseon Dynasty. Today, the city has grown to become one of the most popular economic and cultural centres in South Korea.
